The History of Frigo’s

Frigo’s History

From the northern village of Dolo, Italy to the banks of the Connecticut River, the Frigo family has upheld many traditions and family recipes. We have been serving Western Massachusetts since the 1950’s with highest quality service and speciality foods. In the early 1900’s when the Frigo’s began immigrating to Chicago and began to demand products from their home country, Louis and Pasquale Frigo were sent to Chicago to begin selling their family’s cheeses. They soon opened a cheese factory in Porterfield, Wisconsin. The business was a huge success with 9 sons and 6 daughters joining the business in every capacity from production to sales in the family’s 10 plants and offices.

The Family

Several years later, Amedeo Frigo wanting to expand sales into the northeastern part of the United States began selling cheeses in Connecticut before opening a store in the South End of Springfield, MA. Here he expanded the business from selling cheeses to include a meat shop, specializing in hand cut veal, homemade sausage and braciole. With each generation the Frigo Family business has expanded into new venues but our services and dedication to serving our customers has never changed. Currently Frigo’s still has it’s speciality food shop in the Springfield South End and has just opened a new gourmet deli in East Longmeadow, MA. In the Springfield location you will find a unique offering of imported groceries, cheeses, wines and a vast array of prepared foods of outstanding quality. The store carries beautiful gift baskets, the finest selection of cheeses, wines, pates, imported pastas, olive oils, meats, aged balsamic vinegars and much more. The East Longmeadow store is a gourmet deli serving outstanding sandwiches, salads, and delicious prepared foods to go. It also carries beautiful homemade gift baskets. Both locations offer catering services for business functions as well as special celebrations like baptisms, graduations, work events, weddings and fun family and friend get togethers.
